But you’re sweet…

“And this would be where I sleep,” Chuck indicated the room through the door with a sweep of his hand.

“I like it, it’s cozy but plenty of room to study. “  Julie said peeking around Chuck’s frame to see further into the room.  The other roommates had lost interest, Chuck could hear them returning to the PS4.  Laser fire and jeers began to fill the air as the others decided that a deathmatch tournament was the best way to end the week.

“It’s gonna start getting noisy out here,” he chuckled, “You want to come in for a bit?”

As one of the others yelled a string of expletives Julie covered her own laugh with a hand and just nodded, scooting past Chuck and into the bedroom.

Chuck closed the door to his small room with one hand, the noise from the common area muting almost entirely.  His other hand moved to Julie’s hair to tug gently on the ends of a curl.

“Why do you always do that?” Julie asked quietly, giggling lightly as she knocked his hand playfully away from her hair.

“What? I like your hair, you know that.  I’ve always thought you have beautiful hair.” Chuck shrugged and smiled bashfully, placing the deflected hand behind his own head for safe keeping.

“I never said I minded…” she whispered.  Her head was down now, demurely, looking at him through hooded eyelids and the ghost of a smile playing on her lips.

Chuck almost blushed, but instead pulled his hand from behind his head and placed it back on Julie’s  He ran it through her locks for a few moments and watched as her eyes began to rise to meet his. Slowly he pulled her towards him, until their lips finally met for the briefest of moments before he let her go.  “Still don’t mind?” He asked, grinning wickedly while moving his hands down Julie’s back.

“I thought you’d never do it, actually.”  Julie laughed like windchimes- short musical staccato bursts of laughter.  “I was beginning to think I’d run out of ways to signal you.”

“I guess I just never expected that you would actually want to go for a guy like me.  You’re so smart and… well, I’m not.” His lopsided grin was so heartfelt that Julie couldn’t help but lean in and kiss him again, gently and quickly.

“You may not be a rocket scientist, but you’re sweet.  And you’re honest.” Julie blushed and looked away “And you’ve got great lips.”

Chuck laughed and pulled Julie tighter, leaning down and kissing her earnestly.  She returned the kiss with an eagerness that was unmistakable.
